Notice of network downtime

IT Services will be carrying out essential maintenance to the campus firewalls. This will affect connectivity to the internet for users on both of our campuses and there will be no access via the VPN for users off campus.

When is it happening?

The work will take place between 8am-10am on Wednesday 5th July.

How does this affect me?

On campus

During the downtime, users on campus will experience:

  • Loss of outbound internet access.
  • Access to local University resources such as Learn and Workspaces will be available from both the wired and wireless networks.
  • Email will be impacted during this period as you will not be able to send or receive messages.

Microsoft Teams will not be available on campus. This will include Teams Phone for those Departments and Schools that have already migrated. Please plan accordingly for any meetings scheduled to take place during this time.

Microsoft 365 services will also be affected causing limitations when syncing documents to online locations such as:

  • OneDrive
  • Microsoft Teams
  • SharePoint sites

Off campus

Users off campus will not be able to access any local University resources on campus as the VPN will not be accessible.

Email will not be impacted but messages to users on campus will not be sent or received by until the work is completed.

Microsoft Teams will continue to work for users off campus, but they will not be unable to connect with users located on the campus network.

Where can I get more information?

A communication will be provided once the work has been completed.
