Important: Password length increase for new accounts

To comply with our Cyber Essentials certification, the University will be implementing an increase to password length requirements.

How will this affect me?

As of Tuesday 11th July 2023, all newly created accounts will be required to have a minimum 12-character password.

Please note: This policy will also be applied to any account that changes or resets its password as of Tuesday 11th July.

This change will be progressively rolled out by IT Services, initially impacting newly created accounts.

Impact to existing University accounts, will be advised on in due course, once timing allows.

What do I need to do?

We are encouraging members of the University to move to this password length as soon as practically possible, to increase the security of your account and to avoid any disruption to University services.
