IT Services – Important Information before you return to campus

If you are not regularly working on campus over the summer, in preparation for returning to campus, IT Services recommend connecting to the VPN and restarting your devices. By doing this on a regular basis, all necessary security updates will be applied, ensuring you are ready to work without delay upon your return.

This is particularly important for desktop computers which are usually turned off and may not have received updates over the summer. IT Services recommends planning a suitable time during August for someone in your School or Professional Service to turn on all the desktop computers for a day. This will ensure they get all the necessary security updates, with enough time to resolve any problems, before the start of term.

Once connected to the VPN, you should stay connected for between 60 - 90 minutes to ensure all updates have been made. Instructions on how to connect a laptop to the VPN can be found here: VPN-How to connect my managed desktop device to the VPN? | IT Services | Loughborough University

If after the restart and connecting your laptop to the VPN, you are still experiencing issues connecting your:

Laptop to the network (via the VPN), please email IT Services.

Desktop to the network (on-campus), please complete this form.

Thank you for your cooperation.
