Using Supporting Evidence

This workshop is aimed at students whose first language is English and who would like to know where to start with this complex area of academic writing. Being able to use supporting evidence in your written work, without plagiarising, is crucial for appropriate academic writing. This workshop should help students to know when, why and how to use supporting evidence.

Coherence in Writing

2.00 pm – 4.30 pm, Wednesday 12th November 2014, CC109
4.00 pm – 6.00 pm, Thursday 27th November 2014, SMB002

This workshop is aimed at students whose first language is English and who would like to improve their communication in writing. By the end of the session, participants will be better able to organise their writing and to write coherent paragraphs.

Paraphrasing Skills

2.00pm – 4.30pm Wednesday 19th November 2014, CC109

This workshop is aimed at students whose first language is English and who would like to improve their paraphrasing skills. Effective paraphrasing is crucial for avoiding plagiarism and for using supporting evidence accurately. Participants will be taken through a systematic approach to paraphrasing and given time to practise this challenging skill.

Grammar and Punctuation

4.00 pm – 6.00 pm, Tuesday 25th November, 2014, SMB002

This practical workshop is specifically aimed at students whose first language is English and who wish to refresh and improve their grammar and punctuation skills for academic writing purposes. It includes a pack of resources for independent study.
