During 2015 a general election and local elections will be held in term time. Not all students at Loughborough will be eligible to vote but British, Irish and certain Commonwealth citizens are eligible to vote in all elections in the UK. EU citizens will be able to vote in elections apart from the general election. You can register at both your home and term-time addresses but unlike in previous years, each individual is responsible for registering themselves to vote.
More information is available by visiting: https://www.gov.uk/voting-in-the-uk
If you live in Loughborough or the wider area of Charnwood, you can register to vote using the online form on the Students’ Union website. The Union will give your details to the University who will then pass the information onto Charnwood Borough Council. If you have already registered via Learn you do not need to take any further action.
It is entirely a matter for individual students to decide to register and then use the vote but it is important to remember: no vote, no voice.
Questions can be directed to the Student Office in the Rutland Building (Tel: 01509 222491) or Charnwood Borough Council at electoral.services@charnwood.gov.uk
