An important concept of the CAA service is the use of repositories.

A repository is a collection of objects which are used in the delivery of assessments. Objects include:

  • Questions
  • Resources, such as graphics, which are used by questions
  • Assessments
  • Assessment templates
  • Security information (server side only)
  • Results and responses (server side only)

There are two types of repositories, Local, which are stored on the author’s computer and Remote, which are stored on the servers. Each repository consists of a file structure and a database. The Remote repository exists on multiple, load balanced, application servers and database servers.

A local repository can be used independently of the remote repository. Authors can have their local repository installed on a laptop and use it on or off campus.
